Bruce Mortimer has created fine art landscapes professionally since 1995.
He has photographed in 20 countries on 5 continents, with his major portfolios covering
Southern and Central Africa, and his adopted country of
New Zealand, but includes images from China, Hong Kong, Canada, USA and Australia.
His work is predominantly in the panoramic format, and stylistically simple and powerful. His photography has found its way into calenders, magazines and in published books, as
well as hanging in private and corporate collections throughout the world. Some examples include
artwork created on commission for the Oppenheimer family (Anglo American/De Beers), over 300 images for Vodacom (South Africa),
commissioned art for the marketing manager of the Rugby World Cup,
and an invitation to submit ideas for a commissioned piece for Government House in Wellington, New Zealand. His 2007 book
"Africa by Inspiration" (Art Publishers) is a 180 page coffee table book featuring exclusively black and white images of
Southern Africa. Originally trained in the science of Geology (BSc (Hons.) first class) , Bruce draws on his intimate knowledge of the landscape as inspiration for his landscape art.
Mortimer works with minimal equipment and deep understanding of his subject matter. His compositions are typically captured quickly and discreetly, but he is able to adapt to client's needs effectively when photographing
on commission, whilst still maintaining his visual style. Communication is a key element in his approach, whether it's understanding a client's requirements, or purely to express his own interpretation of the world around him.
The fine art photographs are presented as
limited editions. They are
very high resolution digital images, and therefore enlarge with
exceptional clarity at the large sizes
in which they are sold. The pigments used in the
giclee printing process have a
100+ year archival rating, and the photographs are framed between fomecor board which has a very low acid content and
even lower rate of transfer of that acid
to the artwork. The frames are custom manufactured from sustainable New Zealand clear pine and the glazing is acrylic, making them safer to hang and suitable for
worldwide shipping.
