This drawing is based on a real scene, near Xi'an in China, and created using a reference photograph that I took personally in 1991.
As far as I remember
, these are the steps leading up to the tomb of Emperor Liu Qi. The title is self-explanatory, but as with many of my titles it
represents an entire concept that has value or personal meaning going far beyond the artwork itself.
This artwork was planned and created over a period of months early in 2016.
The primary medium is charcoal, with detail in pencil, and is supported by a heavy Fabriano Artistico paper.
