BEYOND
In the centre of the Old City in Xi'an, China, there is a tower. This young boy was posing for a photograph in the tower, which has a square shape and the photographer was round the corner and couldn't see me. The boy turned to look at me. I've often wondered where he is now, what he is doing. The moment happened in 1991. For various reasons this remains the single most meaningful piece of art that I have ever created, at least in this form, Charcoal and Pencil on paper in my studio in 2013. I was emotional when I sold it, and I knew I had become an artist.
